Welcome Home: Celebrating Three Future Homeowners in Orchard Ridge

On Thursday, June 4, Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake celebrated three future Habitat Chesapeake homeowners. They were joined by community members, Board Members, donors, corporate partners, ReStore team members, Habitat Chesapeake staff, and supporters. All gathered at Orchard Ridge in Baltimore City, for a special home dedication celebration. The vibrant homes that lined up the community served as a colorful backdrop for an afternoon filled with gratitude, reflection, and excitement for what lies ahead.

The celebration marked an important milestone for three future homeowners: Kaylin, Tanorah, and the Aquino family, who each moved one step closer to achieving affordable homeownership.

At Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, our mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. That mission was on full display as supporters gathered to celebrate not only the completion of homes, but the hard work and determination of the families who will soon fill them with memories.

The road to homeownership is not a short one. Throughout the process, each homeowner completed 250 hours of sweat equity, working alongside volunteers on construction sites and supporting Habitat’s mission through service at the ReStore. Within this process, they completed homebuyer education courses designed to prepare them for long term success as homeowners. From budgeting and financial planning to home maintenance and homeownership responsibilities, these families invested in building a strong foundation for their futures.

This home dedication served as the culmination of months of hard work, perseverance, and partnership.

Habitat Chesapeake CEO Mike Posko spoke on the importance of affordable homeownership, stability, opportunity, and the role community and corporate partners play in helping make homeownership possible.

Posko said, “Today, we are celebrating more than just houses. We are celebrating homes and homeowners who now have a place where memories will be made, stability will be built, and new beginnings can take place.”

Businesses like BGE, Thompson Creek, and Maryland Clean Energy Center were in attendance. “This investment represents the type of community-centered financing the C3 Fund was created to support,” said Anmol Vanamali, Chief Investment Officer of the Maryland Clean Energy Center. “By investing with Habitat Chesapeake, we are helping ensure that the benefits of clean energy reach the families and neighborhoods that can benefit the most.”

Guests also heard directly from the homeowners, who reflected on their journeys and shared what this milestone meant to them and their loved ones. Members of the Homeowner Services team, who supported the families throughout the process, offered words of encouragement and recognized the dedication each homeowner demonstrated along the way. The afternoon also featured a special performance by Southern Baptist Church, which led attendees in singing “This Little Light of Mine.” a beloved Habitat Chesapeake tradition that serves as a reminder of the hope, perseverance, and community spirit that makes moments like these possible. Guest enjoyed snowballs provided by Ice Queens as they celebrated alongside the future homeowners and reflected on the significance of the day.

The celebration culminated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting outside of each home. Joined by Habitat Chesapeake CEO Mike Posko and members of the Board of Directors, the homeowners cut ribbons in front of their homes as supporters gathered to celebrate alongside them. As each ribbon fell, it represented months of preparation, hundreds of hours of sweat equity, and the beginning of a future built on stability, opportunity, and hope.

While the celebration highlighted a shared achievement, the path to homeownership looked different for each of them.

For Kaylin, homeownership represents the opportunity to build a strong foundation for her future before the age of 30. Her journey reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment required to achieve the dream of homeownership.

For Tanorah, it represents achieving what was not possible for her ancestors and creating a foundation that future generations can build upon.

For the Aquino family, it means creating stability and building generational wealth for their daughters through homeownership.

This moment means something significant not only to the homeowners, but also to the family members, friends, volunteers, donors, and supporters who stood beside them throughout their journeys.

Her words captured the deeper meaning of the day. Homeownership is more than a house. It is about opportunity. It is about stability. It is about creating a future where generations to come to build upon the foundation that’s being laid down today.

As the celebration concluded, one thing was clear: these houses are ready to become homes. Soon they will be filled with family dinners, holiday traditions, laughter, milestones, and memories that will last for generations.

Also, thanks to the collective efforts of volunteers, donors, corporate partners, staff, and community supporters, three more families are now one step closer to achieving the dream of homeownership.

Every Habitat Chesapeake home is made possible through partnership. Together, we are bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope to ensure more families across Central Maryland have access to the stability and opportunity that affordable homeownership provides.
