It's a Wrap: 27th Annual Summer Build

What do you get when you combine a group of 300+ volunteers, a purposeful partnership with a company dedicated to shaping our world through hard work and inspiration, and the hottest week of the summer? You get Habitat Chesapeake’s Summer Build Week! From June 25 - June 29, more than 300 Stanley Black and Decker (SB&D) employees hitched a ride with Habitat through the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of West Baltimore to renovate 5 homes in all. Insulation, drywall, and demolition was the name of the game, with every day bringing a sense of accomplishment to each group. When asked about their experience for the day a group of SB&D interns replied that this day would be the first of many volunteer days they would have with us - an intense and impactful day all rolled into one. Returning volunteers shared their past Summer Build memories among one another as they painted walls together.

The event is a part of a 27-year partnership that reunites Habitat Chesapeake and Stanley Black and Decker each summer in a different neighborhood. This year we set our sights on Sandtown-Winchester, a community where Habitat Chesapeake has maintained a presence for more than 30 years. With more than 300 Habitat homes completed in the neighborhood and 10 more to come, we welcomed the help of our partner to swing hammers, paint brushes and brooms so we can welcome a host of new families home. But Stanley Black and Decker has dedicated themselves to more than just volunteering. In addition to their hands-on work, SB&D graciously equips us with the the tools needed for an entire year!

By the end of the week, volunteers had completed a seemingly set of tasks that would have otherwise taken us weeks to complete. We are so very thankful to Stanley Black and Decker for their continued support and for truly living their motto: "Tools that make the work."
