Individuals
Our mission says it all: we bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. We offer a wide variety of ways that each individual person can be part of Habitat Chesapeake’s work.
Donate
Building Habitat homes is hard work and requires a lot of upfront funding for building materials, equipment, skilled tradespeople and site supervision to keep volunteers safe and ensure quality results. The single fastest way to make a difference is to Donate Now and help us keep up the pace of construction so we can put more families into homes. Beyond an immediate online gift, there are many giving options, all outlined on our Other Ways to Give page. Among our most pressing and popular options are:
Give Funds
- Online Giving
- Recurring Gifts
- Matching Gifts
- United Way Campaign Giving
- Planned Giving
- Gifts of Stocks & Securities
Give In-Kind
Habitat Chesapeake relies on a wide range of in-kind donations to do our work. Donations of household goods to ReStores help supply more than $3 million annually toward our mission. Corporate donations of building materials like flooring, windows, paint and more, as well as skilled support from tradespeople like engineers, architects, plumbers, electricians and roofers can drastically reduce the cost to build or renovate a home. Finally, vehicle donations supply much-needed funding to buy what we cannot secure in-kind. See below for more information on how you can help with these vital needs.
- In-Kind Donations of Appliances, Cabinets and Furniture to ReStores
- In-Kind Donations of Building Materials and Trade Services to Build Homes
- Vehicle Donations
Volunteer
On a build site
On the build site, volunteers work with our construction staff, AmeriCorps members and partner families at various phases of construction to build homes in neighborhoods throughout Central Maryland. Before volunteering on a build site here are a few quick notes:
- Volunteers must be a minimum age of 16. Individuals 16 or 17 years of age can volunteer to build, but must be accompanied by a chaperone. You must be at least 18 years old to use power tools.
- Volunteer opportunities are available on Fridays and Saturdays, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Additional volunteer days are available for groups, including our Team Build partners.
- No prior construction experience? No problem – we’ll teach you!
- A lot of prior construction experience? Great! We’d love to have you join our Red Hat Team – a special crew of skilled volunteers who help to lead groups throughout the week and do more specialized tasks than an average volunteer can manage!

At a ReStore
At the ReStores, we work hard to keep our ReStore operation costs to a minimum in order to maximize the profit donated to Habitat Chesapeake to help build homes. Volunteers make up the majority of our ReStore workforce. That’s why we need you!
As new donations come in each day, volunteers assist in accepting these contributions, preparing items for sale, pricing stock, arranging inventory both on the showroom floor. Plus, our volunteers help keep our warehouse and showroom floors well organized and sparkling clean. Volunteers also assist our shoppers, providing helpful customer service and support.
- Volunteers must be a minimum age of 14. Individuals 14 or 15 years of age can volunteer but must be accompanied by a chaperone. Volunteers 16 and up do not need a chaperone.
- Volunteer opportunities are available Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am – 5 pm, at the following ReStore locations: Columbia, Dundalk, Glen Burnie, Halethorpe, and Timonium; opportunities are 9 am – 5 pm at the Sandtown ReStore.
- No prior retail experience needed – we’ll teach you!
